Best Car Rental Services at Abu Dhabi Airport
Which car rental service should I choose at Abu Dhabi Airport?
For a late arrival, start by comparing SIXT and Hertz, whose Terminal A branches advertise 24-hour service and explain separate pickup and return locations. Europcar is useful for families comparing cars with vans or people movers. Budget, Avis, Dollar, Thrifty and Autostrad provide further airport choices for your dates and vehicle needs. Enterprise and National also publish AUH bookings through the same local partner, Sanam. Choose the offer that accepts your driving documents and payment card and gives the best complete price for the same car category and rental period.

How to use this shortlist
These are practical choices by need, not a measured service-quality league table. A company with more detailed web pages is not automatically a better rental company. We have not obtained matching live quotes, driven the vehicles or established a highest-rated or cheapest winner.

Terminal A car-rental options
-
SIXT Rent a Car at Abu Dhabi Airport
A late arrival with distinct collection and return instructions
SIXT is a useful starting point for a late flight. Its Terminal A branch is open around the clock, with the counter and Diamond Lounge on the mezzanine, vehicle collection at arrivals ground-floor parking and returns on the mezzanine. The airport directory labels SIXT Level 2; use the detailed SIXT directions and the instructions for your reservation.
The branch lists a minimum age of 21, with higher ages or an underage fee for some car categories. A specific car group and its terms still need to match your driver and booking.

Budget Rent a Car at Abu Dhabi Airport
Comparing economy cars, SUVs and longer rental options
Budget’s airport listing covers economy cars, SUVs, luxury vehicles and short- or longer-duration rental needs. Its 24-hour counter is on the mezzanine above Arrivals.
The current UAE country terms say most vehicles require drivers aged at least 25. Bring the booking payment card; selected high-value bookings need two cards. The published pre-authorisation is the rental and extras plus an AED 1,500–4,000 security component, less prepaid sums, unless otherwise confirmed. The booking specifies the actual amount.

Hertz UAE at Abu Dhabi Airport
Round-the-clock rental with separate counter and return directions
Hertz publishes 24/7 service at AUH. Follow Car Rental signs to its Level 1 counter above Arrivals; its returns address is the Terminal A short-term car park’s second level. These are different parts of the airport journey.
Hertz requires a credit card in the renter’s name for security; debit can settle payments but cannot replace that hold. The amount varies by vehicle. Its FAQ says release can take up to 29 days, depending on the bank.

Avis Rent a Car at Abu Dhabi Airport
Daily, weekly or monthly car rental from a Level 1 counter
Avis is an airport option for daily, weekly or monthly rental, with a 24-hour Level 1 counter. Its wider services also include chauffeur and leasing arrangements, which are separate from a self-drive airport reservation.
Its UAE terms require a physical credit card for security and permit debit only for payments. The published AUH airport surcharge is AED 50, with VAT applicable; automated parking billed through the vehicle also carries an administration fee. Include these in the complete quote.

Europcar Abu Dhabi Airport
Families and groups comparing cars with people movers
Europcar is worth comparing when passenger and luggage space matter. Its airport listing includes compact cars, sedans, SUVs, luxury models, vans and people movers; availability depends on the booked category and dates.
The directory directs daily and short-term enquiries to Europcar Abu Dhabi and longer-term enquiries to Europcar Flex. It labels the branch Level 2, while the airport’s general rental-centre page says Level 1. Follow the collection instructions attached to your Europcar reservation.

-
Dollar Car Rental at Abu Dhabi Airport
Another airport quote for small through premium car categories
Dollar’s airport counter is on the mezzanine, Level 1 between Arrivals and Departures, with 24-hour opening. The airport lists small, medium, larger and premium car categories, making it another useful like-for-like quote for your chosen class.
For a booking that depends on a debit card or a young driver, obtain the airport branch’s written acceptance before prepaying. General promotional pages should not replace the conditions for the actual vehicle and reservation.
-
Thrifty Car Rental at Abu Dhabi Airport
Airport car choice or an eligible resident monthly plan
Thrifty lists small cars, saloons, SUVs and premium vehicles at its 24-hour Terminal A location. The airport page labels it Level 2, so use your booking’s exact meeting point.
Its no-security-deposit option is limited to UAE residents, monthly rentals and selected car groups. It adds a non-refundable one-time 10% charge based on the first month’s rent, and a credit card remains mandatory. This is not a general no-card tourist offer.

Autostrad Rent a Car at Abu Dhabi Airport
Daily through monthly airport rental with a UAE operator
Autostrad’s dedicated airport listing places its 24-hour service in the first-floor Terminal A car-rental area. It describes daily, weekly and monthly car rental alongside leasing.
This is a useful additional quote for an extended UAE stay. The company’s group transport and school-bus services are different products; their presence does not mean they are included in a self-drive airport car booking.

Enterprise and National bookings through Sanam
-
Enterprise Rent-A-Car at Abu Dhabi Airport
An Enterprise reservation through the named AUH partner
Enterprise identifies Sanam Rent A Car LLC at Terminal A and directs arrivals to the mezzanine car-rental lounge. This is the same local partner and contact shown by National.
The published credit-card security is AED 3,000 plus estimated rental, held for up to 30 days after the rental. Debit settles only the final balance. After-hours returns are listed unavailable despite a separate arranged 24/7 collection policy; agree your return time.

-
National Car Rental at Abu Dhabi Airport
A National reservation through the named AUH partner
National’s AUH page names Sanam Rent A Car LLC and the same branch contact as Enterprise. Compare the actual National rate and inclusions; the two brand listings do not establish two independent local operators.
Its policy sets an AED 3,000 deposit plus estimated rental charges, with debit accepted for the final balance only. It permits one-way rentals within the UAE subject to possible charges, but prohibits crossing the UAE border and taking 4x4s off road.
Choose the car, contract and collection plan together
Compare like-for-like quotes: the same pickup and return times, car class, passenger and luggage needs, mileage allowance, fuel policy, protection and excess. Add airport or registration charges, extra drivers, child seats, one-way fees and relevant toll or parking administration costs. A refundable security hold is different from the rental price, but it still uses your available credit.
For tourists, prepare your original driving licence, passport and entry documents, plus an International Driving Permit or approved translation when your chosen operator requires one. UAE residents should check the operator’s UAE-licence and Emirates ID requirements. Eligibility depends on licence origin, residence status, licence age and vehicle category; the airport’s general document list is not approval for an individual driver.
For a night arrival, put the flight number and arrival time on the reservation and agree the delayed-flight procedure. Get the counter location, vehicle collection point and return-car-park directions separately. The airport describes its rental centre as Level 1 above Arrivals, while its SIXT, Europcar and Thrifty entries say Level 2; use the instructions for your actual booking instead of treating every brand’s address as interchangeable. Agree the cancellation or no-show deadline as well as flight-delay handling.
For a family, compare usable luggage capacity as well as the number of seats. Europcar lists vans and people movers alongside cars; reserve the appropriate class and any child seats. For a longer stay, compare monthly mileage and early-return terms rather than multiplying a headline daily rate. Europcar Flex and the selected Thrifty resident monthly option have their own conditions.
Questions before you choose
Where are the car-rental counters at Abu Dhabi Airport?
The airport places its car-rental centre on Level 1 above Arrivals. Individual entries and vehicle-return areas can differ: SIXT distinguishes ground-floor pickup from mezzanine return, and Hertz lists a separate second-level return area. Use the brand’s reservation instructions.
Can I rent a car at Abu Dhabi Airport at 21?
Some options publish a minimum of 21, including SIXT subject to category restrictions and Enterprise’s AUH policy. Budget’s current UAE terms say most vehicles require drivers aged at least 25. Driver age must be accepted for the chosen category before payment.
Is an International Driving Permit always required?
No single rule in this guide applies to every visitor. Operators publish different country and residence-based document requirements, and an IDP may be required alongside the original licence. Check the chosen company’s requirements for your licence and visa status before travelling.
Does paying the rental online remove the security deposit?
No. Advance rental payment and security are different. Hertz still requires credit-card security; Enterprise and National publish an AED 3,000 deposit plus estimated rental charges. Budget’s formula deducts prepaid sums from the rental-plus-security calculation.
Does no deposit mean I do not need a credit card?
Not necessarily. Thrifty’s selected UAE-resident monthly no-deposit option still requires a credit card and adds a non-refundable first-month surcharge. Check the complete terms of a specific offer.
Is a 24-hour airport listing a guarantee of after-hours return?
No. Counter hours, arranged collection and vehicle-return procedures can differ. Enterprise’s AUH page explicitly says after-hours returns are unavailable; agree the actual handover procedure for your reservation.
Which Abu Dhabi Airport car rental company is cheapest?
This comparison has not obtained matching live quotes and cannot name a universal cheapest provider. Compare identical dates and car classes with the same mileage, fuel, protection, airport charges and extras. Keep refundable security separate from the rental cost.
How we selected these places
Sarah Haddad is responsible for this guide. Airport and operator pages were reviewed on 27 October 2026. The comparison considers airport collection, suitable vehicle categories, rental duration and material payment or return conditions. These are desk-researched recommendations grouped by practical use; order does not measure service quality. Published categories do not guarantee a particular model or availability for your dates.
