Top 10 Coffee Shops in the UK (2026)

Which coffee stop fits the visit?

Choose Ottoman in Glasgow for Turkish cezve, Colonna & Small’s Bath for an evolving origin-led selection, or Prufrock in London for espresso and filter alongside seasonal food. Monmouth’s Borough branch combines coffee and beans with a reusable-cup policy; North Star pairs coffee with Leeds Dock brunch. The remaining choices add London cafés, an Edinburgh neighbourhood stop, a Bristol brew bar and a Cardiff market hatch.

How to use this shortlist

This selection spans London, Glasgow, Bath, Leeds, Edinburgh, Bristol and Cardiff. Choose the city and exact branch, then espresso, filter, Turkish cezve, a meal or coffee to take home. City groups help plan a visit; their order is not an independently measured national tasting score.

Bath: explore coffee origins

  • Colonna & Small's Bath

Exploring origin and flavour through a changing coffee menu in Bath

Colonna & Small’s Bath shop is at 6 Chapel Row, where the business began in 2009. It offers a changing selection built around coffee origin and tasting, with baristas guiding the choice rather than serving one fixed house coffee.

Baristas can discuss the changing menu and freezer selection, alongside pastries, cakes and beans for home. Use the Bath address at 6 Chapel Row; its Sunday hours are 10:00–16:00, separate from the brand’s London shop.

The small Bruntsfield café lists 22 indoor seats, welcomes dogs and accepts cash and cards. It explicitly has no Wi-Fi; outdoor seating is described as coming soon. Pastries, cakes, focaccia sandwiches and vegan soup sit alongside retail beans and equipment.

Match the branch and service to the day

Choose the city and branch first. London has Prufrock’s coffee and kitchen, Kaffeine’s weekly food offer, Formative’s coffee-focused shop and Monmouth’s Borough coffee-and-bean counter. Glasgow’s Ottoman adds cezve, Bath’s Colonna changes origin-led choices, and North Star combines Leeds Dock coffee and brunch.

Use kitchen cutoffs for a meal. For facilities, Ottoman has entrance steps and basement toilets, Artisan Roast Bruntsfield has no Wi-Fi, and Monmouth uses card payments and reusable takeaway cups. Branch policies are more useful than assumptions about an entire brand.

A café visit is separate from a course, cupping or wholesale enquiry. Wogan’s public SCA classes are paused, Kaffeine classes are at Eastcastle Street, and North Star’s Coffee Hub has its own arrangements.

Questions before you choose

Does café closing time also mean the kitchen is open?

Not always. Prufrock’s kitchen ends at 15:40 weekdays and 16:20 weekends; North Star Leeds Dock ends food at 14:15 weekdays and 15:00 weekends, before their café closing times.

Where can I compare coffee origins rather than one fixed house blend?

Colonna & Small’s Bath describes an evolving origin-led selection and freezer menu. Prufrock changes espresso/filter coffees and North Star offers espresso choices, batch and hand-poured filter.

Which exact branches have important facility limits?

Ottoman has three entrance steps and basement toilets. Artisan Roast Bruntsfield lists no Wi-Fi and outdoor seating as coming soon. Ask about the arrangement you need at the exact branch.

Can I book a public Wogan SCA course now?

The operator currently says public SCA training is paused during refurbishment, with waiting-list enquiries by email. The brew bar and separate wholesale training are different services.

Are Kaffeine classes at Great Titchfield Street?

The linked class FAQ places them at 15 Eastcastle Street. Great Titchfield Street remains the selected café; class bookings and catering are separate arrangements.

Should I bring a takeaway cup to Monmouth Borough Market?

The market operator says single-use takeaway cups are no longer available and encourages reusable cups. It lists the coffee shop at 2 Park Street, Monday–Saturday 07:30–18:00, closed Sunday.

How we selected these places

We compared the original ten coffee businesses using their exact branch, menu, facility and training information, with the market’s trader page also supporting Monmouth’s Borough identity. City groups reflect different visit styles and practical conditions, without a national tasting score. Published-source research is cited with dates; no café visit or independent coffee tasting is claimed.
