Best Healthy Meal Delivery Services in the UK (2026)

Which meal delivery format fits healthy eating in your week?

For chilled prepared meals, start with Frive for a defined part-week plan, Prep Kitchen for portion and carbohydrate-format choices, or FuelHub for a single weekly box with a one-time alternative. Choose Field Doctor for a freezer reserve and recipe-specific dietary ranges. If you want to cook from portioned ingredients, Mindful Chef provides a different weekly recipe-box format, with frozen Ready To Go separately available. Compare the actual portions, fibre, salt, saturated fat and ingredients below; no brand is automatically the healthiest for every dish or person.

How to use this shortlist

Five selective recommendations cover chilled prepared meals, frozen prepared meals and a cook-at-home recipe option for eligible UK addresses. They serve different time, storage and dietary needs. Positive fits are based on current published services and selected meal panels, with postcode restrictions and material conditions stated; list position is not a measured quality score.

For chilled meals ready to reheat

For prepared meals kept in the freezer

For cooking from portioned ingredients

Choose the routine before the brand

Choose chilled prepared meals when you can eat them within their actual dates, frozen trays when you need a reserve, or a recipe box when cooking is part of the plan. Then choose individual dishes with a mix of ingredients and appropriate portions; a single high-protein example or the word healthy does not establish the whole menu’s nutritional quality.

For dietary requirements, inspect the complete recipe and shared-kitchen conditions. Frive’s halal meat-sourcing statement has stock/broth and collagen-shot exceptions; FuelHub is not halal. Prep Kitchen’s vegetable choices can contain milk or honey, and the reviewed Mindful Chef salmon recipe contains milk. Field Doctor’s Low FODMAP label identifies a range, rather than an assessment of your personal needs.

What healthy eating means in this comparison

Use a varied diet and actual food choices as the starting point: vegetables, pulses, wholegrains and other food groups matter alongside the meal’s energy and protein. A high-protein or low-calorie label alone does not describe fibre, salt, saturated fat, ingredients or an appropriate portion.

NHS label guidance supports comparing similar foods per 100g as well as the portion you will actually eat. Its per-100g low/high bands are up to 1.5g/over 5g for saturates and up to 0.3g/over 1.5g for salt. These are shopping comparisons, not individual treatment advice or a brand-wide health score.

Compare actual meals, not a brand-wide health promise

Two current main-meal examples per service show ingredients and nutrition you might actually select, including fish, meat and plant-based dishes across the shortlist. FuelHub’s two chicken dishes contrast pasta and rice/sauce choices. The recipe-box figures are per served portion with the two-person option selected. These are illustrative menu choices, not random samples, average values or a controlled nutritional trial.

Read the whole portion and the relevant per-100g panel together. Some operators do not display a meal weight; none is inferred from rounded nutrition. Allergens listed here are examples rather than complete allergy advice—use the full current ingredient and shared-site information.

Use per-100g figures without losing the real serving

Prep Kitchen’s Regular Balanced fajita lists per 100g: 127 kcal, 1.5g fibre, 0.9g saturates and 0.64g salt; its squash/chickpea curry lists 126 kcal, 3.9g fibre, 0.7g saturates and 0.41g salt. Field Doctor’s Low FODMAP salmon lists 134 kcal, 1.9g fibre, 1g saturates and 0.4g salt per 100g; its bean chilli lists 124 kcal, 4g fibre, 0.6g saturates and 0.4g salt.

Mindful Chef’s two-person noodle recipe lists 150 kcal, 3.4g fibre, 0.9g saturates and 0.89g salt per 100g; the salmon recipe lists 152 kcal, 2.1g fibre, 2.1g saturates and 0.46g salt. Check the selected serving option rather than transferring another recipe-size panel.

For operators publishing full-serving weights, the same basis can be calculated transparently. Dividing stated salt by stated grams and multiplying by 100 gives approximately 0.42g/100g for Frive sea bass, 0.25g for its butterbean bowl, 0.41g for FuelHub pesto pasta and 0.72g for its teriyaki chicken. These four are our calculations from the published full-serving figures, not separately printed label values. A lower density still does not make a larger full portion nutritionally identical.

Read ordinary cost examples at the correct comparison level

The figures below are selected-plan or product observations, not a matched five-provider checkout test. We did not complete the same postcode/week basket for all five, so no cheapest or best-value provider is named. A meal-kit portion requiring cooking also has a different time and pantry-cost basis from a reheatable tray.

For a fair value comparison, choose the same number of single-serving main meals, record ordinary food prices and every delivery, exclude introductory discounts and separate one-off from recurring commitments. Record recipe premiums, portion sizes, postcode and delivery week. If a service cannot supply that basket, state the mismatch rather than substituting snacks or a promotional price.

Ordinary cost evidence and what still needs an actual order quote
Service Observed basis Cost observation Material condition
Frive Advertised plan starts, not a selected ordinary basket 3 days from £35; 5 from £52; 6 from £60 Selected mains, promotions and per-box fee conflicts prevent a delivered-total inference
Prep Kitchen 10 distinct Regular Balanced mains, weekly-plan screen £69.50 food + £5.99 delivery = £75.49 before first-box discount No postcode-specific checkout; four-box prepayment is a different plan
FuelHub 5 pesto pasta + 5 teriyaki chicken, same selected builder box Weekly £80 + £6.95 = £86.95; one-time £85 + £6.95 = £91.95 No code used; postcode checkout not completed; premiums change other selections
Field Doctor Selected single frozen meals, not a ten-main quote Bean chilli £7.49; Low FODMAP salmon £8.79 Newer help £50 minimum; delivery from £6.50, free over £67.50 where offered
Mindful Chef Recipe-box order rules; no matched ordinary basket £25 food minimum, excluding £5.99 delivery Servings/recipes determine actual total; starting and first-box prices are not the weekly quote

Fit delivery, storage and renewal to the week

Chilled trays need enough fridge space and a plan to eat each one before its label expires. Frive’s part-week delivery split, Prep Kitchen’s dish-specific dates and FuelHub’s shorter-date dishes can matter more than a nominal number of days. Frozen Field Doctor meals need freezer capacity; Mindful Chef recipe boxes require cooking time and perishable-ingredient planning.

For the next payment or box, the published deadlines differ: Frive Tuesday/Friday 20:00 by delivery day; Prep Kitchen Tuesday midday for the weekly payment; FuelHub 20:00 five days before delivery; Field Doctor before 08:00 two days ahead under its terms; Mindful Chef midnight four days ahead. Paid/prepared orders can remain due after a subscription is cancelled. Check the actual confirmation and deadline for the selected plan.

Questions before you choose

How many meals do I have to order from Frive, and is it a meal kit?

Frive supplies cooked prepared meals, not a cook-from-scratch kit. Its three-, five- and six-day plans require at least two meals per day: six, ten or twelve respectively. Follow each meal’s heating instructions.

Is Frive delivery always free?

No. Dedicated help applies free delivery above £40 for the Sunday box and above £30 for Wednesday, with £6 below each threshold. The general FAQ instead describes £40 for three days and £70 across five/six days, and exact-threshold wording differs. Use each actual box charge, including any upgrade.

When must I change or skip Frive, and does cancellation remove a paid box?

Published cutoffs are Tuesday 20:00 for Sunday/Monday and Friday 20:00 for Wednesday deliveries. Paid-for meals still arrive after cancellation. Skip a future delivery or cancel using the appropriate account action, then check confirmation; cancellation can lose loyalty rewards.

Where can Frive deliver?

Delivery help lists England, Wales and mainland Scotland, excluding Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands and Scottish islands. The terms also mention Highland exceptions. Confirm the precise postcode, especially a remote address.

How long can I keep Frive meals, and what if its guidance differs?

Refrigerate at 0–5°C and follow every meal’s use-by date and instructions. The general FAQ says four days, dedicated help up to six with some shorter, and other marketing says up to seven. None overrides the individual label. For inconsistent fees use the actual order; ask Frive about an unclear label or charge.

Are Frive meals guaranteed free from allergen traces?

No. Frive describes allergens handled in the same kitchen and some shared equipment. A dietary preference does not remove trace risk; read the exact meal’s ingredients and allergen information.

Do these services cover every UK address?

No. Frive, Prep Kitchen, FuelHub and Field Doctor have mainland, remote-area or island restrictions and sometimes conflicting wording. Mindful Chef’s terms allow Northern Ireland recipe boxes but exclude Ready To Go there, plus other postcode exceptions. Confirm the chosen product and address before comparing delivered totals.

Can a healthy meal-delivery option be a meal kit?

Yes. Mindful Chef is included for people who want to cook portioned ingredients at home. The other four main formats here are prepared meals. Choose the time and storage format you can maintain, then compare the actual dishes rather than equating cooking or freezing with an automatic health ranking.

Which service is healthiest or cheapest?

These examples do not establish a brand-wide winner. Compare varied food choices, full-portion and per-100g nutrition, ingredients and your needs. For cost, obtain ordinary delivered quotes for the same number and kind of portions, postcode and week; first-box offers and a low headline price do not establish ongoing value.

Are Frive’s halal meat sources enough to cover every product?

No. Its help identifies Borough Broth organic stocks/broths and Press collagen-shot exceptions, with a target broth-change date subject to change, and flags other kitchen ingredients some customers may consider non-halal. Verify the chosen dishes. FuelHub explicitly says it cannot provide halal meals.

How we selected these places

We compared current primary menus, selected nutrition panels, ordering interfaces, delivery help and subscription terms on 23 October 2026, using NHS food-label and balanced-diet guidance for nonclinical shopping criteria. All five have a positive practical fit, grouped by food format. Ten current meal examples illustrate meaningful differences; they are not brand averages or a controlled trial. Cost observations are not a matched five-provider checkout comparison. We have not tasted meals, tested delivery reliability, assessed individual medical suitability or placed orders.
